If they are missing, you have an improperly designed accessory. So if you encounter accessories that shoot loose, don't just go running to M-LOK. The point is, there are apparently numerous so called "Keymod" accessories on the market that lack a recoil lug. Here's an example where the recoil lug is just an edge: It just had a nut at each end of the part. My sample had nothing at all, not even a hole for screwing one in.
sometimes it's just a protruding edge, sometimes it's more substantial as shown in this picture. The recoil lug is the round protrusion in the center of the top surface of the part. Apparently in later versions of the part they added the lug, as shown in the picture. My sample of the Lanco grip stop didn't have any. When you tighten the nuts they essentially jam the recoil lugs against the edge of the rail, so the accessory can't back out. It also requires one or more recoil lugs. The Keymod system doesn't just rely on the mounting nuts to hold accessories in place. It didn't take long to find some good links, and within a minute discovered the source of my problem. I went on line and looked for specs on how Keymod works. Surely it's not just held on by the friction of the nuts against the rail is it? Wow, that's crap.
I tightened the nuts just enough to remove any slack, and was still able to slide it off. I went home and reattached it, making sure to tighten it well (no loctite yet).Ī few weeks later I'm at the range again, after a few rounds "clang" the thing shoots loose and falls to the ground. I wasn't sure exactly how far down the rail I wanted it to be, so I hadn't tightened it fully. OK, my fault, I probably didn't tighten it down enough. I attached it to my rail, went to the range, and the thing came loose. This was one of the early revisions of the part, before Lanco sold it to B5.
It was small, lightweight, fit my hand well, and was designed to directly attach to a Keymod rail.
A while ago I purchased a grip stop from Lanco Tactical.
